Method & Evidence

AimHow can agile control mechanisms be conceptualized and measured to positively influence both the sustainability and economic performance of innovation portfolios?
MethodScale development and validation, quantitative analysis
ProcedureThe study synthesized literature on sustainability, agility, and control levers in innovation portfolio management (IPM). A novel conceptualization of agile control was developed, referring to formal mechanisms that direct attention, motivate, and encourage customer-focused innovation while allowing for flexible adaptation to change. A four-step scale development process involving four distinct samples was used to identify, purify, validate, and test a new measurement instrument for agile control in IPM. Finally, an additional analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between agile control and portfolio sustainability and performance.
