designdex.org — Legal

Terms & Conditions

Last updated 22 August 2026

1. Who you are contracting with

These Terms govern your use of designdex.org (the "Service"), operated by designdex.org ("we", "us"). By creating an account or continuing to use the Service you agree to these Terms. If you are signing up on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it; otherwise you confirm you are of legal age to enter a contract.

2. The Service

designdex.org is a subscription research index: it aggregates published design, ergonomics and human-factors studies, summarises them, and provides search, saving, citation and export tools. Summaries and interpretations are editorial aids, not the underlying papers themselves, and are provided for general and educational purposes only. They are not professional, medical, legal or safety advice — verify against the cited source before relying on any finding.

3. Your account

You must provide accurate information and keep it current. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly at support@designdex.org if you suspect unauthorised use.

4. Acceptable use

You must not misuse the Service. In particular you must not: use it unlawfully; commit fraud or send spam; infringe intellectual property rights; scrape, bulk-download or systematically republish the index; interfere with security (malware, probing, circumventing rate or access limits); reverse engineer the Service; or resell, sublicense or redistribute access.

We may remove content, restrict features or suspend access where we reasonably believe these rules have been broken.

5. Licence and ownership

Subject to these Terms and your plan, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service. designdex.org retains all rights in the Service, its software, editorial summaries, branding and documentation. Cited papers remain the property of their respective rights-holders; where you believe material infringes your rights, contact support@designdex.org and we will review and, where appropriate, remove it, with repeat infringers losing access.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of notes, collections and other content you add. You grant us a limited licence to host and process that content solely to operate the Service for you.

7. Payment, subscription and refunds

Subscriptions begin with a 7-day free trial and then renew monthly at the price shown at checkout until cancelled. Payment, billing, tax, invoicing, cancellation and refund mechanics are handled by our payment provider. Refund requests are covered by our Refund Policy, and you can cancel at any time from your account or by contacting support; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

8. Availability

We work to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free performance. Features, sources and coverage may change over time.

9. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access for material breach of these Terms, non-payment, security or fraud risk, or repeated or serious policy violations. You may stop using the Service at any time. On termination your licence ends; you may request an export of your saved library within 30 days, after which your data may be deleted.

10. Warranties and liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. We are not liable for indirect, consequential or special loss, including loss of profits, data or goodwill. Our aggregate liability is capped at the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Indemnity

You will indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your unlawful use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms.

12. General

You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control. We may update these Terms and will post the revised version here with a new date; continued use means acceptance.
